This week started with some scary news coming out of the UK. Bailiffs have now been "given" the power to break into homes of debt evaders. They would even be able to use "reasonable force" to pin down residents and confiscate property.
The Kingdom of Bahrain is now allowing legal prostitution in the form of quick temporary marriages to prevent violation of Muslim Law.
In economic news, the Russian Ruble fell to a record low against the Euro, the UK economy shrank the most since 1990, US unemployment has added another 30,000 claims for the week of December 20th and Japan's factory output plummeted 8.1% from October. The holiday season didn't help much, as US store traffic fell 24% on pre-Christmas weekend shopping.
Peter Schiff is still making headlines, this week with an editorial in the Wall Street Journal entitled "There's No Pain-Free Cure for Recession."
It's now the sixth Christmas for troops in Iraq.
The big news this week was Israel's bombardment of the Gaza strip. Its hard to find decent reporting on these events, as each organization has their own agenda. I recommend the antiwar.com news wire, If Americans Knew, Asia Times, Al Jazeera, and even Russia Today.
In Thailand, thousands of anti-Government protesters surrounded the Parliament building to force delay of the opening Legislative session under the new Government.
Reuters has announced that Ron Paul's book The Revolution: A Manifesto received the largest number of positive reviews on Amazon.com of any book published in 2008.
