Um, I think you have a Molyneux complex. Growing up my parents represented themselves as objective moral authorities that I was wrong to question.

As an adult, I know they were full of shit, but I still love them and see them on occasion. AND I still love to read Molyneux's stuff. The most important part of Molyneux's essay is that your relationships are voluntary. All of them. Including the one you have (or may not have) with your family.

    So...basically...chill.

      Hi, Travis!

I feel relatively chilled, but thank you anyway. Did you happen to notice that the first sentence of your reply was an attempt to psychologize me?

It sounds like you have a normal relationship with your family (just as I do). And there a lot of things Molyneux produces that I enjoy, too.

None of that obviates the fact that the basis of Molyneux's philosophy is discarding your family and friends. I'm not interpreting his essay or reading into his essay--I'm quoting his essay. It's all right there.

If he repudiates his position, then fine. If not, then all I've done is take the facts and put them out there so everyone can interpret them as he or she chooses.

I don't have any emotion about it. Molyneux believes (again, in his own words) that he has developed the "very first, top-to-bottom, proven system of philosophy." If so, I think his essays should be able to stand up to a little public scrutiny and discourse.
