All the Libertarian news you can use for the week of May 22nd, 2009!
Somalia has been in the news recently with multiple government-led attacks against rebel groups located throughout the country. The Al-Shabaab insurgency group has taken the key town of Jowhar in southeastern Somalia. The western/UN backed Somali government launched an offensive last Sunday in capital city Mogidishu, killing 45, just under half being civilians.

An interesting article over at the Strike-the-Root has sparked quite a bit of discussion on Twitter and elsewhere. An Open Letter to Ron Paul Supporters by Stewart Browne has three basic conclusions:
1. The Internet is a force to be recognized.
2. Despite stereotypes, Libertarian-types can organize effectively.
3. Libertarians cannot achieve drastic change through the political processThe author ends by outlining the steps required to promote and achieve secession within these ranks. While I completely agree with secession, I'm not so sure that the general mass of Ron Paul supporters would be the springboard for this kind of campaign. In my experience, typical Ron Paul supporters seem to be extremely nationalistic, anti-immigration, and pro military.
An interesting post this week over at Just a Girl in Short Shorts blog demonstrates the violation of Posse Comitatus by the U.S Government. If you don't know what that is, check the link now.

Did you hear about those defense intelligence reports with bible quotes at the top of each one? Creeeepy. Here's one example:
Next to a picture of an American tank is the quote: "Open the gates that the righteous nations may enter, The nation that keeps faith. Isaiah 26.2"
Another article recently posted by the Wall Street Journal sums up Obama's fascistic tendencies by pointing out that when Government tries its hand at business, it fails.
This week, pilots are now required to obtain prior written government permission for each private airplane (and each of its occupants) to depart on an international flight, or to return to the United States.
Over at the Seasteading Institute, they have posted the images from their recent design contest. Really fascinating designs. I would be absolutely thrilled to see any of these come to fruition. Amazing stuff.

In Obama=Bush news, Obama is moving towards "preventative detention" as a means to protect Americans from potential threats. This means pre-crime, plain and simple. Lets hold all these brown people for a indefinite period of time because we think they might be trying to hurt us. Change! Don't forget to check out this great commentary from Rachel Maddow.
Videos of the MHD crew explaining what happened when they were arrested have now been posted over at motorhomediaries.com. A great success story that really demonstrates how libertarians can come together to quickly solve pressing problems.
A couple of last minute tidbits:
Don't speak out against the government in Venezuela, unless you enjoy Government thugs.
The Senate has decided to strip funding of the Guantanamo bay closure while passing the $913 Billion war funding bill. Surprise.
Oh yeah, the UK may be losing its AAA credit rating. That might be important for those of you living in the UK.
You might be wondering, how can this happen in a free market? Answer: it can't.
