All the Libertarian News you can use for the week of Friday the 13th, March 2009!
Some disturbing news from the dissent-crack-down department out of Las Vegas. Four members of The Sovereign Movement group have been arrested by the FBI and Nevada's Joint Terrorist Task Force. Charges include all the usual suspects: money laundering, tax evasion, and weapons possession. Many freedom loving people are starting to wonder if this is the beginning of a serious crack down?
Luckily, The Liberty Forum went off without a hitch last week. The Free State Project will be putting up new media each day, including all of the talks from the various speakers. You can also check out FTLs (Free Talk Live) coverage on Free Keene.
In drug war news, A Florida deputy accidentally shot a woman last week during a botched drug raid. Naturally, the officer has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation. Moral of the story? People wearing funny uniforms get money for shooting people.
In North Carolina a judge has ordered three home-schooled children into public school, despite the children being at or above their grade level in aptitude. A blow to home-schoolers everywhere, the site www.hsinjustice.com has been setup to draw attention to the case.
If you thought copyright law in the US was bad, have a look at what they're doing over in France. Currently being debated in Parliament is an anti-p2p (peer to peer file sharing) law that would make it illegal for one not to secure their Internet traffic. This means all home users and wifi operators from cafe owners to access providers. If a file-sharer is caught after a third offense, the user will be kicked offline for three months to a year. In an age where its nearly impossible not to interact with the Internet on a daily basis, this kind of restriction seems absurd. How are they going to track this? Lawmakers say they will keep a blacklist of users that every ISP will be notified about.

In economic news, the US has 8.1% unemployment, and the 17th bank of the year has been closed by the FDIC.
In China, exports have caught up with imports. This means that China is only exporting as much as it imports. For the past few years, China's exports have been on the rise at break-neck speeds. Now, with the global slump, this trend is reversing itself.
North Korea recently had its election and guess who won? If you guessed Kim Jong Il, you'd be correct! The state reporting agency KCNA (Korean Central News Agency) is stating a 100% approval with 100% turnout. Who said Democracy doesn't work?
I'll conclude this weeks review with a post I wrote over at Bureaucrash. A federal judge ruled recently that in cases of child pornography, you can now be forced to reveal personal passwords without Fifth Amendment protection. Remember kids, encrypt that data!
